March 2009

On 28 March 2009 – members of Rotaract District 1110 spent the day at the The Fortune Centre of Riding Therapy in Avon Tyrell near Bransgore in the New Forest. The school is an independent residential college, providing a course called “Further Education through Horsemanship” which - as the name suggests - uses horses and horse motivation to help vulnerable people with special needs. The day itself consisted of a remedial vaulting demonstration by students, a hog roast supper in the afternoon, various fête style/sideshow events and a Barn Dance presented by the ‘Spike Island’ band in the evening - in schools large barn (hay seats and everything) . The event was able to raise money for the centre through donations, a tombola, cake sale, a kids treasure hunt and top-notch raffle prizes such as family tickets to local attractions and shopping vouchers in generous denominations. Most of the food and drink sold came from local New Forest ‘brands’ and some vendors were happy to donate time and a slice of any profits made to the event. The total raised for the centre was £ 1496.31

January/February 2009

One of our members took part in the Rotaract Overseas project 'Go Gambia' - this project went to two villages and improved water supplies and built a washhouse for laundry. The secondary aim was to improve an existing clinic and simple toilet facilities in Sambel Kunda. The project also helped animals by building a watering trough in Misira. The project achieved all if its primary and secondary aims.

Bournemouth Back-to-front dinner

Our Rotary-Rotaract Liason officer apparently has no shame. We look up to these Rotarians :P

More fun at the Back-to-front dinner. Eating dessert before your appetiser really messes with your brain you know.

PS if you turn up drunk and end up sober it's your own fault!
